20/20 Investigator, Dr. Lyndon Jones, has been named the Director of the Centre for Contact Lens Research at the University of Waterloo,
succeeding the Founding butDirector of the Centre, Dr. Desmond Fonn who is retiring.
Dr. Jones graduated in Optometry from the University of Wales in 1985 and gained his PhD from Aston University in 1998. He holds three of the higher clinical awards granted by the College of Optometrists in the UK, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and holds a Diplomate from the Academy’s Section on Cornea and Contact Lenses.
Dr. Jones is also a Fellow of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE). He is the current Chair of the Research Committee of the American Academy of Optometry, a Topical Editor for the journal Optometry & Vision Science and is a founding member of the Ocular Surface Society of Optometry.
He has been the recipient of a number of awards, including the 2010 BCLA “Pioneers Lecture”, 2007 ACLM “Allan Walker Medal”, 2006 American Optometric Foundation’s “Michael Harris Award for Excellence in Optometric Education”, 2005 University of Waterloo’s “Distinguished Teacher Award”, 2002 BCLA “Irving Fatt Memorial Lecture”, 2001 BCLA “Dallos Award” and the 1999 German Contact Lens Society’s “Peter Abel Award”. He has authored over 200 refereed and professional papers, one text-book and given over 550 invited lectures at conferences worldwide, in over 30 countries. Dr. Jones, who currently serves as the Associate Director of the Centre, will take up his new position as Director on January 1, 2011.
